Description

Gercillin containing the active ingredient Ampicillin is considered a penicillin type antibiotic. Gercillin kills the bacteria by attacking their cell wall. Specifically, it prevents the synthesis of a substance in the cell wall called peptidoglycan, which provides the cell wall with the strength required for survival of bacteria in human body.

Gercillin treats or prevents different types of bacterial infections such as bladder infections; pneumonia; bronchitis; gonorrhea; meningitis; or infections of the stomach or intestines; ear, lung, skin, and urinary tract infections. This antibiotic drug works only for skin, ear and urinary tract infections listed above, and won't be effective for colds, flu, or other viral infections

The common side effects of Gercillin are severe skin rash, itching, hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, wheezing, vaginal infection, allergic reaction, shortness of breath, stomach upset, and urticaria.

Gercillin administration is contraindicated in patients having a history of a past hypersensitivity to any of the penicillins; and in infections induced by penicillinase-producing organisms.
