Description

Humulin N (NPH) is an injectable drug and containing Insulin Human Recombinant, a product which has a wide use in medicine, especially for glucose control in patients with diabetes. It was originally developed in the late 70’s and nowadays it is an intermediate-acting insulin product that is working more slowly and lasts longer than regular insulin. Humulin N is produced by combining a manufactured insulin (that is identical to human insulin) with certain chemicals to make it last longer. NPH stands for Neutral Protamine Hagedorn. Humulin N NPH comes in boxes, each unit containing 5 cartridges x 3 mL (100 IU/mL).

Humulin N NPH is important for several functions, such as controlling blood sugar. Insulin helps the human body cells by removing the sugar from the bloodstream. This sugar fuels the body's cells, giving them the energy to work properly. Another important effect of Humulin is the regulation of glycogen metabolism.

Humulin NPH (Insulin) reaches its highest effectiveness at reducing blood glucose 2-8 hours after application of the product. As it is known, it keeps acting approximately 20 hours. If this product is injected without any others, it has to be taken 1-2 times a day.

One of the main side effects of Humulin N is the probability of blood sugar from getting too low, causing hypoglycemia. Symptoms of low blood sugar may include headache, blurred vision, fast heartbeat, sweating, tremor, nausea, hunger, confusion, drowsiness, weakness, dizziness, or trouble concentrating. Other side effects are symptoms of an allergic reaction like rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. However this is a very dangerous compound and at signs of any negative effects or at the wish to increase the dosage people should consult the physician.
