Description
The main active ingredient or salt in Nizol is Ketoconazole.
Ketoconazole is used to treat fungal infections when other medications are not available or cannot be tolerated. Ketoconazole should not be used to treat fungal meningitis (infection of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord caused by a fungus) or fungal nail infections. Nizol is in a class of antifungals called imidazoles. It works by slowing the growth of fungi that cause infection.
Nizol may be taken with or without food. The oral dose range is 200-400 mg daily. For more detailed information please see label and please consult specialist. Do not take more Nizol than is indicated at the label without consulting a doctor.
Nizol is generally well tolerated. It may cause signs and symptoms such as rash, itching, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, fatigue, and impotence. It is also known to rarely cause allergic reactions. The use of Nizol is avoided in nursing mothers as Nizol is secreted in breastmilk. If symptoms appear discontinue use of drug and report to the doctor immediately.
